the language of warmth, a prose poem

I’ve learnt to realise that love is all around. They tell me: 

‘Just walking home, figured i’d call’

‘I bought us concert tickets, so I can come visit you’

‘Do you want to have these clothes?’

My response is always

Come in,

Let me turn the kettle on

And leave your shoes by the door so I can hang up your coat

Theres a crumble in the oven.

Do you want sugar or milk?

I’ve already set the table for two.

They’re all forms of: how are you? 

I miss you. I love you. I love you. 

I see you. 

I hear you. 

I love you too.
