And finally we said goodbye
Your eyes meeting mine for the last time
And I didn’t cry
Though your words were cruel
Lashing out like whips of fire
Mirroring the passion that once burned with desire.
Like the cigarettes you lit
They dissolve like silt,
Running like sand through my fingers
And out like a light,
The smoke permeates the air
Sticky and lingering distastefully on the tip of your tongue.
The bitter tang not unlike the feel of your cruel words
sucking the air from my lungs.
As you walked away
My soul soared
Like the snapping of a cord
The breaking of a new day
Your eyes flickered down
And we finally said goodbye.
