quiet evenings, a poem

for nicholas
for your quiet knowing.
you have held me strong, held me tight and seen me in my human. it has felt like i have known you always.
your brilliance will shine brightly, and you deserve the world.

quiet evenings

you at my table,
mugs of tea in our hands.

music perpetually breaking conversation.

we hum as our hands work
holding pencils and paper
the sound of lead scratching

and spoons of all sizes
littering bowls with batter
as the oven warms our hearts
our cakes fluffing
our gentle souls

we fall into each other
foreheads pressed together
like our mugs
on quiet nights.
